Unless you employ the members or moderators on your site, I see how this has no bearing.
Besides, you can easily backup your database from phpmyadmin, and other places, including the "export" option in the ACP for the messages tables.

What might be somewhat more useful is a feature to prevent immediate deletion of PMs. Could be a problem if people delete a PM that was sent before a backup was taken, or a small modification that saves a copy of PMs - as seen in the form of a PM logger.
