fozo Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 folks, just want to find out if IPB will intergrate IDM into their or at least make it compatible for ipb 2.2 final release?
theclub Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 They won't be giving it away, you can bank on that.
Micks Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 Next version will work with 2.2 (he's releasing a RC of new version sometime next week said on ipsbeyond), current 1.1 doesn't.
Loren Posted October 21, 2006 Posted October 21, 2006 current 1.1 doesn'tNot true - 1.1 works fine on my upgraded test server.
Guest Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 brandon said he'd bring out a new version shortly after the 2.2 final

Auhosj Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 It might be a typo or something between author and user :P
bfarber Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 The current version *may* work if you update the templates and all that jazz.I will, however, be releasing 1.1 to coincide with IPB 2.2. A few new features added, some minor bugs cleared up, and the like.

Defenestration Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Can someone explain what the Download Manager module is for (ie. why would I need it for my site/forum) ?
bfarber Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 It allows you to host downloads for your members. You can allow your members to contribute files as well, and control the varying permissions (view files, download files, submit files, rate files, comment files, and so on) on a per-category basis. If you have an account for IPS Beyond, check out the 'Downloads' tab to see it being used in a live environment.
Defenestration Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 So it's similar to the download sites like FileForum, Softpedia etc.
gel Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 Can members use IDM upload very large files? Or it's only for small files? Or members can add files links to files hosted on other servers?
Defenestration Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 I guess the admin of the site can set the min/max limit for file submissions, and members with upload permission can then upload files whose size falls between these limits.
bfarber Posted October 24, 2006 Posted October 24, 2006 As an FYI, v1.1 beta 1 was released for testing yesterday to active IDM license holders. So it's similar to the download sites like FileForum, Softpedia etc.Yes, and no. I would picture it more like how Gallery operates within IPB - as a site addon to extend the functionality and offerings of your site. Again, IPS Beyond is a good example. I wouldn't expect it to totally replace the function of your site, though I suppose you could always draw more focus to this section over the forums.(Note, I haven't seen the sites you referenced, so perhaps that is how those sites direct traffic too?)Can members use IDM upload very large files? Or it's only for small files? Or members can add files links to files hosted on other servers? This depends upon your server configuration more than anything. The default PHP upload_max_filesize limit is 2M with PHP, although many hosts will increase this for you. Likewise, I've written up an article offering 3 different ways you can try to increase this yourself without contacting your host (the methods often work, but not always) and it is available on IPS Beyond. With v1.1, two new methods have been introduced to add files:--You can link to remotely hosted files (if the admin enables this)--You can import files from your server (limited to specific groups by the admin, this is useful if you want to FTP a file to your downloads directory, and then instead of uploading a file on the submit file forum, just type the name of the file you already FTP'd to the server)I guess the admin of the site can set the min/max limit for file submissions, and members with upload permission can then upload files whose size falls between these limits. The admin can set a max filesize submission limit (that cannot exceed the upload_max_filesize limit) and (where allowed) members can submit files up to that limit.I know some sites hosting 100MB+ files (though naturally the upload can take quite some time).
