Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
FrostedPopTart Posted November 8, 2005 Posted November 8, 2005 I think that the next version of IPB should add some Mass Manage Forums capability. You know; for those times that you want to add the same setting to many forums at once but CBA'ed to do em one at a time? Here's how it would work: You go to edit the first forum the settings would be applied to and select all of your changes. Then an AJAX window would come up, possibly with some radio buttons inside; confirming that you want those choices to be applied; along with check boxes to select the forums to apply the changes to. Then at the bottom of the page; there would be an extra button called Mass Edit Forums. It would be even better if this feature could support the same idea / functionality for permissions settings as well IMHO. :)
Shyatic Posted November 15, 2005 Posted November 15, 2005 YES!!!!!!!! :) I would love to do 'en masse' permissions editing for my forums... would make life oh so much easier :)
FrostedPopTart Posted December 21, 2005 Posted December 21, 2005 *bump* I am sure more than 3 people want this for 2.2 / 3.0. :)
FrostedPopTart Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 There should be things that it would not carry over to the other forums, such as forum descriptions, passwords, and of course forum names. But things like all the on/off settings, etc. should be able to be applied by such a feature IMO. :)
MikeChristopher Posted December 30, 2005 Posted December 30, 2005 this would be wonderful would save time for everyone.
Antony Posted December 31, 2005 Posted December 31, 2005 Yes. I wonder if Matt can come up with an AJAX/DHTML/Buzzword Interface to allow us to reorder forums by drag 'n' drop, edit titles/descriptions by right click and hold, and expand/collapse the forum tree via plus/minus buttons. I know its all possible and probably wouldn't be too complicated to do in theory, but getting it working in all browsers would be a nightmare.
.Cameron Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 You can kinda do the permissions per permission mask...but that could still take a while. This is something I've thought that they've needed to add for some time. +1
Brandon C Posted January 1, 2006 Posted January 1, 2006 +1! I've been wanting this feature for a long time, and it would be a huge time-saver for me. :)
FrostedPopTart Posted March 30, 2006 Posted March 30, 2006 *Bump - da - bump* Bumping this seeing as how work is beginning again on IPB 2.2. :)
FrostedPopTart Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 Re bumping this for consideration in IPB 3.0. This is a must have feature imo. :)
stobbo Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 I'd like it so you can select which forums you wish to change, or select all.+1 from me.
Brandon C Posted January 17, 2007 Posted January 17, 2007 One year and 16 days later, I still want this feature. :)
WoLeRiNe` Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Re bumping this for consideration in IPB 3.0. This is a must have feature imo. :)+1
FrostedPopTart Posted January 19, 2007 Posted January 19, 2007 Glad to see the support. :) Keep it coming guys.
Mark Posted January 20, 2007 Posted January 20, 2007 Yeah, I have to run SQL queries for this, which is annoying - if we're finding work-arounds for features not in, then well, they should be in
FrostedPopTart Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Seems that a lot of people want this in the next version (myself included) ... let's see how many more support it with this bump a month later! :)
Stewart Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Pretty sure this is already planned for 3.0, I will re-suggest it again anyway :)
FrostedPopTart Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Pretty sure this is already planned for 3.0, I will re-suggest it again anyway :) Glad to hear, I don't think one of my suggestions has ever made it into IPB in the 3 plus years of my using the product (w00t) . And a sorely needed one at that.
Sinistra Sensei Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 so you mean something like what vB has? the head cat has all the permissions forums added to tht cat all have teh same settings? ether way +1
