  1. What you need is another permission setting. There is already 'Read topics' and 'Reply topics', another would be needed, "Read topic replies" or something of that nature. I think there is actually a hook that only affects guests so that they can only see the first post of each topic but not anything after that. I'm sure if you contact the author of that hook, they could make one to let you set permissions on who could read the complete topics.
  2. This is one of the features I've seen requested a number of times and I too would like it to be available because then if someone tries to cover up some wrong doing, it'll be a wasted effort on their part. That and if someone wants to undo an edit, it becomes easier.
  3. Keep in mind that just because vB does something a certain way, doesn't mean that it's the best (or right) way. I'd be highly irked if I started a few topics and then kept getting constant notifications of replies. I'd start filtering the messages to be deleted to cut down on aggravation. Also there is the fact that some hosting companies put a cap on the number of emails that may be sent out per hour and something like that could cause havoc in no time flat. Be better to have it left as a mod where someone with less than X posts would get a notification if a reply has been made to a topic they posted in if they haven't been active within a few days of that reply. That would be enough to remind someone to revisit without an avalanche of emails harassing them to return.
  4. Very very VERY bad idea. Your board would get marked as being a source of spam in no time flat.
  5. When you get hold of the site owner, you can have him add you as a contact in the client area, which in turn will get you access to some of the client areas on this board. He will have to assign you to the different products (IP.Board and any add-ons he's purchased) and you will then get access to the respective areas. You won't get access to the customers lounge though.
  6. Since this thread is getting so much attention, I wanted to sink my teeth in to suck out some of the life and put it into the other threads. :D
  7. A few requests that I want to make sure are seen in this thread... 3.1 request. "Favorite Posts" This has already had several people endorsing the idea and it's somewhat different from the "Social Bookmarking" that will be in 3.1 since the bookmarks would be stored on the site instead of on external sites/programs. ACP/Members, member search and actions REQ: set groups to not appear in calendar I always like to find out how long (at minimum) it's expected to take before an Alpha/Beta might be available. Like do you know that it won't be available for another couple of months? I know that somehow, people seem to think that any reference to a date is a "promise" of a release, but would still be nice to know when there might be more of an idea of when Alpha/Beta releases may be released. Sort of like a "don't hold your breath, you'll be waiting at least (amount of time) before we have a better idea", at which time, if it's known it'll be another amount of time before more is known, it could be mentioned. Never a mention of a possible date of release. If more people would adopt this way of thinking (those who cry when something isn't released when they claim it should have been) then it probably wouldn't be as much of an issue to get timelines and updates to those timelines.
  8. Being able to manipulate search results hardly qualifies as knowing what you are talking about. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that you don't know. Just that search results can be manipulated, as has been proven multiple times in the past. I've asked for this feature before and I'm asking again to make sure it's not forgotten.. With FaceBook connect, I'd like to be able to let members associate their accounts with a FaceBook account, BUT not be able to create a new forum account with FB connect. As it is now, it's either both or neither. Be nice to require new members to register/validate with an actual email account, then allow them to associate a FB account.
  9. How about... For packages that are $0.00, skip the part where you select a payment method, otherwise, treat it exactly the same. Be able to limit how many times/how often someone can purchase the same package. X times in Y period (X = 0 is unlimited, Y = 0 is infinite). Time would make sure that the person can't purchase the same package more than X times in the specified period. Should default to unlimited (which would make the time period ignored). Good when you want to limit a package to once a year or something and the package is only supposed to be good for a few months of usage. A option to specifically allow a trial of a package (and how long that trial should last.
  10. If you want to see the original attachment, just view the original post. :D
  11. Wouldn't be possible because in the License Agreement when you purchase and use IPB, you are limited to one install at one URL. The most you could get away with would be to have a domain name point to a specific forum/subforum, but from there it would still be the same board. "Are you refreshing the page or is this Ajax?" Um yeah that could get really annoying. By the way, who's that little creature munching away endlessly in your sig?
  12. It depends on the intent of the search. If it's to find a topic that you've read before but can't quite remember the name or location of, then a topic search can be quite helpful. Showing posts as results, I prefer to be able to see the entire post (even if I have to scroll the post view) instead of a small snippet because that small snippet might not have enough for me to determine if it's what I'm looking for.
  13. Welcome aboard, have a + from me and I'll give you 5 stars on your profile.
  14. It can be done but the problem with just a simple refresh is.. How do you know when it's the user who refreshed -vs- an ajax refreshing? Also what if they see something and want to compare it with a view from a different browser and automatic refreshing clears it away? They no longer have the option of doing a screenshot, etc.
  15. Because some of the IPS customers are large businesses that have no need for advertisements on their company run boards. Also with IPB3, you don't need to have coding skills, only be able to upload files and then install the mods (via hooks/applications) to use them. :)

    Please allow...

Use google. Google search for: site:forums.invisionpower.com seo There is a setting in the ACP that is defaulted to 4 but can be changed to 3. But as the description of the setting says, the configuration on the server may override the settings. ie, even if it's set to 3, the server may require 4 (or more).
  17. Similar threads = searching for other threads based on topic I presume? +1 on The search box being at the bottom but moved to the top or being in both places. Currently, if someone reads a topic, then that topic is marked as read, so backtracking and then clicking on the arrow would only take you to the last post, even if it's not the first unread. Thus, a link for "first unread" would take you to the last post as well, unless multiple replies have been made since the time you read the topic. As for social bookmarking, this may not be exactly what you're talking about, but this is an idea that I coined up and could potentially have a similar function: 3.1 request. "Favorite Posts" Placements of ads would be best as a mod, even though I think it would be nice if skin templates were to pre-exist for that purpose so that if you add the html code it would automatically show it. But other than that, best left as a mod. The countdown, eh.. Being told that that the user must wait XX seconds between searches along with "You must wait another YY seconds for your next search" would do the trick. Edumacate them on the delay and tell them how much longer at the same time.
  18. As Dark Slipstream said, they verify all transactions. During the weekends it may take until Monday, although sometimes someone from management might pop in and handle some of the pending transactions to lighten the load some. I've been a customer for several years now and when I make a purchase or renew a license, I still have to wait. I know you're probably a bit nervous and impatient, but you only have to go through it once per transaction and once it's over with you don't have to worry about it again until you renew (so it's better to renew as soon as you can if you don't want an interruption in your support). Considering that the prices on the Add Ons hasn't gone up in the past few years, I'd say that the fraud protection has been working, otherwise IPS would have to bump up prices to make up for lost revenue. It's a necessary evil.
  19. Dealing with searches, I recall seeing that when you use +word +word +word it's supposed to return posts that contain all the words (ie, + is must-include) and using quotes lets you search for a phrase, however as an example, if you do a search for "When It's Ready" with the quotes, it returns results of the words individually.
  20. I think this is a bug that's already been fixed but I'm not 100% certain. Have you reported it in the bug tracker?

    Dissapointed

Perhaps instead of automatically sending the person to an answering service, a recording could come online every minute saying to the effect of being able to continue holding or to press 8675309 if they would prefer to be forwarded to an answering service so that they can stop being on hold on the phone but have their call returned if necessary.

    "Undo" feature

I was thinking that when viewing a 'topic' in the trashcan, there could be an extra option (per topic not multi-topic) where you could restore/undelete the 'topic'. If it were a post then it'd be integrated back into the topic it came from otherwise it'd only restore the forum it came from. The 'undo' feature was just an extension of this, as it would make it easier to undo a mistake. But I'm more concern with just undoing a topic/post deletion (provided of course that the trashcan option is in use).

    "Undo" feature

Even just to undelete a post/topic? I mean if the trashcan isn't in use then I know that the delete feature is a one-way option. I use the trash can option, but if a post/topic is deleted by mistake, then it's a hassle to move it back and stuff.
  24. I know it's probably a pointless thing but it seems to be a bit popular considering how many people seem to like it... Display "Member No:" on posts I know that I like it myself even though there's no real need to know it or show it. But as you can see in there, some people seem to really like to have it. So requesting that it be added back in by default. :)

    "Undo" feature

Merge and split should be just as easy, so long as you are talking about topic/post and not post/post. If you merge two posts together then I can't imagine being able to undo that without keeping individual copies of the posts somewhere. But if you merge a post into a topic, then it should be just as easy to yank it back out and vise-versa.
