  1. I think we could easily list a ton of stuff IPB has that vB doesn't, and visa-versa. I hate to say it but no forum software is perfect, they all have there flaws, and its really just a matter of choosing which one works better for you. +1 to the search though, its not really the functionality I have a problem with, its the initial interface that I don't like, something more along the lines of what phpbb has going on could look good. Also agree with what you said about the community resources/modifications not being visible/promoted enough as is, there's allot of misconception still that IPB isn't as easy to mod as vBulletin and doesn't have as many resources, it would be good to quash that.

  2. AFAIK people using IE should just suck it up and get used to it, its not like they're not already used to a less than enjoyable internet experience.
Let them add it to the long list of reasons why they shouldn't still be using it, too many developers are already bending over backwards to achieve complete compatability for IE, when they really shouldn't, Microsoft won't fix a problem that's already being fixed for them.

  3. I've encountered on occasion the need to converse with a member on my site via PM, however I can't do this if I've disabled the member's Personal Messenger. You may say, well, that makes sense, but I think that similar to overriding an inbox-full, Admins should be allowed to override this and message any member on the board, and vice versa.

A member who's Personal Messenger was disabled reported a post to me, and I have no way of responding to his report without re-enabling his Personal Messenger.

You could use the email member feature from the site, that's what I do in cases like these.

  4. Please don't jump to conclusions that IPB itself was hacked. :) There are dozens of possibilities. If the owner believes it was IPB itself that was compromised, they are certainly free to submit a ticket and we will assist them to the best of our ability in tracking down how the hacker got in and what damage was done exactly.

True, but IPB3's still in early stages, vulnerabilities are inevitable, more or less a matter of time more than anything really...

  5. As mentioned in another thread, the current issue with anything priced at 0.00 is that the user is still sent to the payment page - when of course there is nothing to pay.

Why does this have to be a bad thing?
Why not make the package $0.01, its as good as free but handles the transaction through paypal, this can help ensure people don't signup to the trial multiple times unless they have multiple paypal accounts (which would require multiple credit/debit cards)...
  6. Considering how feature rich IPB 3.0 is I'd say it performs very well, its very configurable so if you want to run it without many resources its just a matter of finding the right balance of features.
If it doesn't run well on shared hosting I'd put that down more to the host overselling than to the performance of IPB.

  7. What I would like is to be able to disable such options that compromise the security of the board, primarily sql queries and database backups, for ROOT admins.
Whilst some may say that as root admin it makes sence to have all such permissions, but for some, like myself, I can control these actions server side, having it forum side is just an additional security risk.
Even the most security conscience admin can fall victim of a 0day exploit, even after taking all the necessary steps to optimum security. Having the option to disable such features for root admins would improve security further, perhaps the settings to allow/disallow these actions for root admins could be controlled via the config file.
