Questions about wildcard asterisks in surveys.

I noticed that the asterisk only works when added to the right of the words
Ex.:
Anonym* (works perfectly)

 

But when I use the asterisk to the left of the word
Ex.:
*mization  (does not work.)

Is this behavior normal?

If correct, it would be much more efficient to search the asterisk at the beginning and end of words simultaneously.
