Administrators can't see gallery

I've been through all groups and gallery settings and everything is marked with Administrator access.  All of my admins are only admins - no sub categories but we can only see the above the fold area in the live galleries.   I suspect this is a setting I've recently changed but hoping someone else has made the same mistake or seen this problem and can save me some time by offering a a fast track to what would be the most likely problem.
