Pinned gallery images

So I have a bunch of images pinned in a certain order.
That order is important for me.

The idea was, upload the images first (think of wanting to display the first steps of my child from age 1 to 2 in chronological order), which isn't so easy as the gallery software manages to mix up the order itself every so now and then when you upload, and later modify the accompanying text per image.

But when doing so (modifying the text) the image that's being modified moves to the top.

Nothing sticks, so what's the point of pinning images?

Or am I getting this wrong? And pinning has a whole other purpose then what I thought it has?
