Using Pages under your community root

So I've followed these instructions: https://community.invisionpower.com/4docs/administration/pages/using-pages-under-your-community-root-r100/ and have a couple of questions.

1. When you set the toggle in 'pages > advanced settings' it no longer prompts you to download a htaccess file.  is this still needed?
2. Although the index page at www.mysite.com is working correctly the 'home' link in the breadcrumbs still goes to www.mysite.com/forums/.  Is there a way to reset this to www.mysite.com?
