IP.Board Backup Suggestions

Hello,

I run two forums on separate cPanel accounts with NameCheap that use IP.Board (version 3.4 now, but will be upgraded to 4.0 soon).  The cPanel has an option for backing up using CodeGuard, but it costs $5/mo/site, and there's not really any money flowing around for us to afford that.  I was wondering about writing a custom script to automatically back up the website files and databases to remote servers (FTPS or SSH preferred).  Is there a free service that's like CodeGuard or should I just try to figure out a PHP/BASH script to accomplish the same thing?
