Topic only accessible with link

Is it possible to make it so you can only view a topic if you have the link? We want to make a topic that is only accessible by people attending a certain event, but because there about 100 people coming, we don't want to do it using permissions or groups.

Alternatively is there another way to achieve what I want to?

I guess you could protect it with a password and share the password as you would share the link (email, PM...). Don't know about the link though...

You should have that option while you're in the process of creating a new Forum (or editing an existing one) that isn't a category. Here's setting:
