How to change default photo?

I've tried changing the default photo by replacing the file directly, however, when I upgraded from RC1 to RC2, it was reset to the old one.

Is there any setting for this, or a way to change it permanently?

Where did you replace the file — through FTP? You should replace it via ACP -> Themes -> Manage Theme Resources. Find the default photo and replace it there.
