A wish list for IPS Social Suite (4.0)

Hi IPB Team,

I would really appreciate you consider those suggestions towards IPB 4 Social Suite:

  1. Have, as admin, a more robust control over users editing and deleting their own content
  2. A language comparison tool or list, deeply necessary as updating a no-English speaking community http://community.invisionpower.com/topic/372900-language-comparison-tool-or-list-urgent-to-avoid-serious-bugs/
  3. IP Blog Global Categories, that is general categories created by admin: why are we not allowed to create general admin-level categories in blogs, being this possible in Gallery and Forum?
  4. Using CSS3 animation to create Pure CSS icons or, alternatively, using a CSS sprite for icons to reduce server requests.
  5. A CSS sprite for emoticons (Smilies) to improve page speed.
  6. Page HTML and CSS default compression.
  7. IP Nexus as an affiliate price comparison script, that is IP Nexus being able to import an XML or CSV affiliate product datafeed

Thanks for listening

#4 we really dont need sprites, because when we are creating custom themes we need to be able to change the skin's icons, etc.

#5 not a bad idea, but would not know how to implement it.

#7 is the reason i dont use nexus.

  2. A CSS sprite for emoticons (Smilies) to improve page speed.

CSS sprites don't need to come at the cost of losing the ability to easily edit a skin's icons. A tool can be implemented to automatically generate a sprite for your theme from a set of icon files. A number of such tools already exist, and XenForo has one built right in. I think that would be a very reasonable feature to implement. :)

Mass request topics like this are really hard for IPS to judge what are actually good suggestions. As we've already seen, people have started adding on to your list, which may not be indicative of what you'd like to see, and people are doing separate conversations about specific requests which will inevitably lead to getting off into multiple tangents. There is no good way in a topic like this to judge which of the suggestions are popular among lots of customers and which are not.

It;s best to stick to a one-suggestion-per-topic rule. That lets people 'Like' the suggestion to show that there is a following for that specific request, and it keeps conversation limited to discussing the one thing rather than people replying on page 5 of the topic to something that hasn't been discussed since page 2.

Using CSS3 animation to create Pure CSS icons or, alternatively, using a CSS sprite for icons to reduce server requests.

By this, you mean multiple images within one image file, then using the individual images from that file as needed? If so, that's already being done. The 'Like This' button, for example.

Something I'd like to see in 4.0 is a better style editor. Something like XenForo's or MyBB's would be nice.

A text editor that lets me paste with firefox without clicking buttons and then pasting.

Useful Global ignore (Chat, forums etc.) Like vBulletins super ignore, remove the offending posters existence from the other poster. (in example. "yes you ignored this poster but we are going to remind you every time his post is there anyway.")

better ad system that doesn't require an arm and leg to purchase. (nexu$$$$).

Oh, and a spam cleaner system would be a nice complement to IPS' spam database.

Michael, I understand your concerns and I agree with you that a single focused topic is the best place to talk about a single suggestion. That is why suggestion #1, #2 and #7 are being linked to the individual post. Thanks for your input, I will start (or follow-up), as soon as possible, new topics (post) focused on suggestions #3, #4, #5, #6.

There is no good way in a topic like this to judge which of the suggestions are popular among lots of customers and which are not.

I disagree with you on this point, this topic has been focused on a pure and sincere list of things I would love to see on our board, I mean this is an open minded, instinctive and passionate topic, I would say a “brain-storming” topic based on open briefing, that is why it has been originally posted in "Client Lounge" Forum, not in "FeedBack". We are all aware of the importance of random ideas, they are often a good way to poll, just my humble experience  .

Thanks for your feedback.

I think you missed his point on this. When you list several things in one topic and then say a dozen people like your topic, how do the IPS devs know which ideas people are liking the topic for? Each person might like it for different reasons. One person might like one of the ideas but not the others, but from that one idea decide to like your post to show support. Someone else might like a few of the ideas, not including the one the other person liked. So while your topic gets support, the things you've listed are left in limbo from uncertainty.

To put it a different way.. Let's say that you listed three drastically different things you'd like to see and 100 people liked the post. Out of those 100, how many of them like only one of the ideas (and which one), how many like two of the ideas (and which two) and how many like all three?

Thanks for your feedback.

We have all seen these lengthy topics before - they end up going off topic and have limited opportunity for other people to argue for or against anyone feature.

Thanks everyone for your feedbacks !

As suggested, I would love to discuss suggestions in a separate-focused topic.

Suggestion #1, #2 and #7 are being linked to their own individual topics, anyone interested to support those ideas, please do it (link are located in the first post).

#4 and #5 suggestions: anyone interested in this issue (Pure CSS3 icons and CSSsprite for icons and emoticons-smilies to reduce server requests), please help us supporting the following topic:

I hope in IPS 4 they will find a way to gather ideas in one place, so all feature requests/ideas are in 1 (one) place (something like bug tracker) called idea-tracker and people can vote on each idea.

They already have something like that. They call them the feedback forums. Idea for IP.Board? Use the IP.Board feedback forum. Blog, Downloads, etc.

I was hopping for something like reddit with up and down arrow voting for a feature/idea. I don't know if this is useful but if we suppose that IPS needs a way to prioritize future features you need a quick list of them on a single screen with the ability to interact to them.

Though feedback forums are fine too.

They do more than just go based on how popular an idea may seem. :)

This is in the suggestions forum - but repeated here: Please make it so users can easily upload/embed photos from the editor (i.e. via the Image button which is currently limited to hot-linking).

Agree 100%, aswered in your post:

Thanks for your input !

Thanks for the agreement.

Back in the old days, when hosting and bandwidth were expensive, most people wanted their users to hot-link to PhotoBucket etc, but now it's 2013 and we need to make it easy for our users to upload their images directly - like they are used to doing on Facebook etc. Those forum owners who still don't want image uploads should be able to simply untick that option in the admin - fingers crossed IPS actually look in to this - it's default behaviour of the editor anyway (or so I'm told)!

Better emoticon organization. My community LOVES emoticons (as do I) and wish that we could have categories for them and a better way to see them in the editor.

Oh and a better editor.
