Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
aam1 Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 There are many users out there that use screen resolutions of 1024x768, or lower. I would like to make a request that IPS developers remember to check that anything they do also works properly at at least 1024x768.
.Ian Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Agree about 1024 - but not sure any site should be working to a lower resolution now. There are mobile skins for smaller devices.
Alex Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 http://www.w3schools.com/browsers/browsers_display.asp 1024x768 is in use, but is definitely on the decline, it unfortunately limits what you can do with an interface. This is just my opinion of course, but it won't be long before 1024x768 is near obsolete.
Jinkler Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 Also agree on 1024, looking at the stats of my visitors, a good percentage still use that resolution. I assume 3.2 will work with 1024? (A question for IPB)
.Ian Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 http://www.w3schools...ers_display.asp 1024x768 isn't used as much as people think anymore, and severely limits what you can do with an interface. This is just my opinion of course, but it won't be long before 1024x768 is near obsolete. Sure, but we still had slightly over 20% of our traffic at that resolution - so not a small number at all. No doubt it will reduce, but I think it will still take a year or two.
3DKiwi Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I don't think it will reduce as my guess is many of the smaller screens are in fact netbooks. My son uses one at University. What I would suggest is a low res skin to cater for these devices but the default skin be designed to work on a 1280 wide screen for proper laptops and desktop computers. 3DKiwi

aam1 Posted March 30, 2011 Author Posted March 30, 2011 1024x768 is very common with many public, health and education institutions. Also, it's very true about the netbooks.
Management Matt Posted March 30, 2011 Management Posted March 30, 2011 I can confirm that the minimum workable width of the new skin is 980px so it's comfortably within that margin.
Tiki Tiki Posted March 30, 2011 Posted March 30, 2011 I can confirm that the minimum workable width of the new skin is 980px so it's comfortably within that margin. It would be nice to see Gallery 4.0.3 fit comfortably within that margin. :whistle:Report ID #27837: Image too big in Gallery index

aam1 Posted May 5, 2011 Author Posted May 5, 2011 Does anyone know if any of the 1024 x 768 issues have been addressed yet?
Royzee Posted May 8, 2011 Posted May 8, 2011 Does anyone know if any of the 1024 x 768 issues have been addressed yet? I use 1024 on my backup computer and both of my local servers. All have been used occasionally to access forums, both v2.3.x and v3.1.4. None has ever had a display issue.
