Twitter spam in status updates

It seems that if we allow twitter connect then Twitter users can enable their ability to send Tweets from Twitter to the board status updates. Unfortunately there is no control from the admin side (that I know of) to stop it. This should be looked into and if possible create some mechanism of control on our end. I don't know how to stop it without banning members or disconnecting Twitter altogether. Would prefer not to do either but have some admin control instead.
