Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted July 21, 201014 yr Having just upgraded to 3.1.2 I was dismayed to find that the "Systems Statistics" block had been moved from the Dashboard area to being hidden under the Support tab... and being hidden is I have to say a retrograde step that compromises ease of use. Having this information available upon logging into the ACP was a very useful set of indicators that were immediately to hand concerning the status of accounts, topics and posts. Actually having to go look for this information means that things requiring attention will now get missed.
July 22, 201014 yr Author I'll push this issue further as I've now been sitting staring unhappily at my ACP Dashboard for quite some time. I use IP.Board to support my business and it will become of even further import with the release of IP.Nexus. I therefore spend long periods of time logged into the ACP monitoring my community. The Dashboard area should display features and functions of immediate use to the board Administrator(s). Unfortunately however in its latest incarnation it has become little more than an advertising platform for IPS. While "IPS Latest News" and "IPS Latest Blogs" are of interest, it is not the primary function of the ACP to force-feed this information into my eyeballs. I'd appreciate if IPS would at least consider moving "IPS Latest News" and "IPS Latest Blogs" to the bottom of the page and returning functionality to the Dashboard. Incidentally, ACP help has this to say under the Support tab -For normal usage, most administrators will not need to interact with this section. Functions here are for diagnostics, support, or advanced development. Patently untrue in the case of the System Statistics which are of immediate, every day use to forum Administrators.
July 22, 201014 yr Patently untrue in the case of the System Statistics which are of immediate, every day use to forum Administrators. Just to play Devil's Advocate here, I never bothered to look there if I was interested in knowing my forum stats, they're right on the public side on the board index.
July 22, 201014 yr Author They are? You have rather more publicly available information than I do then... Awaiting Validation Locked Accounts COPPA Accounts Topics Awaiting Moderation Posts Awaiting Moderation
July 22, 201014 yr None of the top 3 things ever were anything that mattered to me, and the topics and posts that are awaiting moderation do display on the board index, just not in the stats section.
July 22, 201014 yr Author ...the topics and posts that are awaiting moderation do display on the board index, just not in the stats section. Near invisibly, yes. So poorly in fact that topics/posts awaiting moderation may never be noticed by Admin/Moderators.
July 23, 201014 yr Don't get *too* upset by the changing of the dashboard in the ACP. I am positive we will be gathering feedback about it over the course of 3.1.2 and incorporating said feedback for our next release. If you notice one thing about us as a company - we leave taking feedback and turning that feedback into useful updates to the product. :) It will happen from time to time that we make changes that you don't love, but don't despair. Let us know what we're doing right and what we're doing wrong, and we'll make changes to accommodate moving forward.
July 23, 201014 yr It should be an option in ACP, either a clean cut version of ACP or a full view version by way of a click setting

That's why I appreciate IPS ... here are 2 general points that need to always be focused on. 1. VIRAL capability ... continuously improve ways for the forums to generate more traffic and generate it faster and easier. 2. ECOMMERCE capability ... continuously improve money generating functions ... forums that make money will solidify your companys leadership and in turn make you more money. :)

I am a supporter of IPS products (after all, I pay my subscriptions! :D ) but on this occasion I believe the 3.1.2 ACP Dashboard redesign to be ill-conceived. It makes my job harder rather than simpler. That's my feedback... ;)

July 29, 201014 yr Brandon, with all due respect, this is something that should be changed back very soon. IPS has changed everyone's default Dashboard page into an advertising tool for IPS, this was very poor judgment and it should been consulted by the entire community before this was implemented. I realize that IPS wants to highlight their news items but taking over a clients dashboard with IPS-related links and removing those links (locked accounts, number of members online, validating, etc) that every single one of us have actually used, it's a huge step back in the development of IP.Board. Now, while there have been some features of IPB 3 that I have disagreed with, this must be the biggest one of all. I'm just wanting to know how IPS could remove a vital part, a vital functionality of the IPB software and make it even more difficult for IPS Clients to use. Now, while I have enjoyed IPB3, for the most part, as I have received a lot of positive feedback from the members on my site, it's a huge setback for the IPB software to remove these links from the Administration aspect of the ACP. I just think that it would be a simple thing to restore the previous default dashboard page with a minor update but I do know that IPS has made my life more difficult in the management of my community.

July 29, 201014 yr Thanks, Sefket. I was afraid that I was the only one who had a major problem with this. Where I'm looking at from is that IPS has turned my ACP Dashboard into an advertising tool for IPS-related website links. The one thing that I always found useful, going all the way back to IPB 2, was that when I logged into my ACP that the first thing I could address, and the first thing that I would address, would be the issue of locked accounts. Matter of fact, "locked accounts" would be the first issue I would always address because it places a serious distraction for my site. Since that link is no longer there, it makes my life more inconvenient now that I'm forced to use the search feature. I have never used the search feature and now I'm being forced to. The one thing that I have to agree with is that the Dashboard default page should be allowed to be customized. At least, it would solve this problem. I'm just surprised that this has gotten some much needed attention. I didn't discover this problem until a few days ago and I'm sure that IPS is getting an earful of this particular problem.
July 29, 201014 yr Knowing IPB, I'm guaranteed they will fix this as they ALWAYS listen to their customers.

July 30, 201014 yr What I really miss and an extra feature is to put the "Search for Member" back on the dashboard and put a drop down arrow list saying IP Address, Email, etc. and put what you need in there and it searches for you. Since in the Member tab, it memorizes what you last had it on the drop down arrow list and it had the same thing in the dash board.
July 30, 201014 yr I do vote for removing the IPS News off the dashboard. I visit the community forums daily, unlike some users, so I do not need to be constantly reminded about the blog and latest news. I know some users don't ever visit the company forums, but the information can just be moved as did the previous information. If I designed it, I'd put the moderating board stats back, along with the quick member search and that block that shows if your running an out of date version. I would move those 2 IPS news thing to the support tab.
