W13 Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Uploading IPB takes FOREVER because it has soooo many files. Why not just have :install.phpupload.zipAnd the install.php will use PHP's zlib to unzip all the files on your server and then take you through the install or upgrade.
rct2·com Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 Or, even better, go back to the days where a zip and a gzip were available for dowload. The gzip could be uploaded as a single file, then unzipped on the server and all the files and folders automatically had the correct CHMOD values.
princetontiger Posted July 5, 2007 Posted July 5, 2007 This was done once in some variation... many people reported problems.
Munnday Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 One of the biggest issues with this is that a lot of web servers limit the max. file size for an uploaded file - aswell as this, some also limit the time the server is allowed to extract the files. Thus, although a pain it maybe, it's actually easier and creates less issues having to upload all the files unziped.
Dark Phantom Posted July 6, 2007 Posted July 6, 2007 It only takes me 5 minutes at the most to upload the files for IPB. Considering there is, lets say 1000 files, I say this is pretty good. Plus the fact most files are small, most of the transfer time is switching files to be uploaded.Once its uploaded is not really a big deal, talking about 2 minutes for updates at the most after that.
