Posted July 5, 200717 yr Uploading IPB takes FOREVER because it has soooo many files. Why not just have :install.phpupload.zipAnd the install.php will use PHP's zlib to unzip all the files on your server and then take you through the install or upgrade.
July 5, 200717 yr Or, even better, go back to the days where a zip and a gzip were available for dowload.The gzip could be uploaded as a single file, then unzipped on the server and all the files and folders automatically had the correct CHMOD values.
July 6, 200717 yr One of the biggest issues with this is that a lot of web servers limit the max. file size for an uploaded file - aswell as this, some also limit the time the server is allowed to extract the files.Thus, although a pain it maybe, it's actually easier and creates less issues having to upload all the files unziped.
July 6, 200717 yr It only takes me 5 minutes at the most to upload the files for IPB. Considering there is, lets say 1000 files, I say this is pretty good. Plus the fact most files are small, most of the transfer time is switching files to be uploaded.Once its uploaded is not really a big deal, talking about 2 minutes for updates at the most after that.
