Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
A200 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I recently (today) stumbled on a Invision forum that had inappropriate content, more specifically in the nature of advertisements about genital extensions. There seemed evident quite an amount of such content, and I was wondering wether such uses of your software is allowed or not.I will not publicly reveal the name or address of the forum, but you can contact me (PM) for it.
Mat Barrie Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 The license is quite clear about what forbidden uses are. These are:You may not: permit other individuals to use the Software except under the terms listed abovereverse engineer, disassemble, or create derivative works based on the Software for distribution or usage outside your web siteuse the Software in such as way as to condone or encourage terrorism, promote or provide pirated Software, or any other form of illegal or damaging activitymodify and/or remove any copyright notices or labels on the Software on each page (unless copyright output removal license is purchased) and in the header of each script source filedistribute the Softwaredistribute individual copies of files, libraries, or other programming material in the Software packagedistribute or modify proprietary graphics, HTML, or CSS packaged with the Software for use in Software applications other than Invision Power Board or web sites without written permission from IPSmodify the software to function in more than instance or location (URL, domain, subdomain, etc.) from a single set of source program files unless each location is separately licensedThat said, just because you find "genital enlargement" advertising distasteful, does not mean everyone else does. And it certainly isn't illegal. Why should IPS (or any other company) care about someone using the software in a manner you find "inappropriate"? Who are you to define inappropriate?Ugh, sorry, I'm ranting again. I really dislike it when people try and push their views of appropriateness as being some sort of holy crusade that everyone should adhere to. Seriously, stop trying to define inappropriate. Get over yourselves already!Ugh, more ranting. K, I'm gonna stop typing now.
A200 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 And there were images of porn on it. Not soft porn, hard porn.
Mat Barrie Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 You're missing my point. SO WHAT? PORNOGRAPHY ISN'T ILLEGAL!I guess I do have to reiterate my point: just because you find something "inappropriate", doesn't mean it is. I gave you the exact quote from the EULA telling you what is allowed. Does it SAY anywhere on it that you can't host porn, or are you just trying to find some excuse to get them shut down because "omg porno is teh evilz!"
A200 Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 I am not stating that I think the site should be shut down. And I know Porn is not illegal, but having it in full reach of a child is disturbing.
Watty Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 The bottom line here is this: IPS won't (and shouldn't be expected to) do anything. If you feel that the site in question is catering to minors in an inappropriate way, then you will need to contact their hosting company.
Jonathan S. Posted April 26, 2007 Posted April 26, 2007 If you think something may violate our terms of service, please e-mail management@invisionpower.com. We will then investigate and decide if it violates our terms of service. As this really isn't feedback for our products, I will close this topic at this time.
