CFGuru Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 We require every forum member to have a valid, working, email address. I think if IPB had some means where the forum administrator could flag an account with a bad email address so that when the user logged in next time they would be directed to a message telling them to update their email address or they would not be able to post -- that would be an awesome feature.
Coastie Posted November 29, 2005 Posted November 29, 2005 Yes, I send out about 5 bounced email messages per day. Bugs the @#$%^ out of me!!
Guest Exiled Posted November 30, 2005 Posted November 30, 2005 I created a usergroup for bad registrations, plus a (nonpostable) forum, visible only to that group, and put the message in the forum description. The Permissions mask for the this group *only* lets them see this forum and description when they log in. It's easy to base other groups/masks on this one, and edit a click or two to accommodate as many situations as you like. It also shows their specific "status" (problem) in their profile to quickly remind me of their situation (I'll be adding a per-member Admin Notes mod soon) I'd love a drop down "move to group X" menu next to the validate button, but I won't be getting around to doing that any time soon.

TCWT Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 where did you go to check that? I have my own dedicated server.
{NPC}Mika Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 i see bounced emails because the from email address is set to an email address that forwards any emails sent to it to my email. so when email x sends a bounce message back to the from field it forwards to mine.. what i want to see is a way as the forum admin to email specific user even if they set their address to hidden

Coastie Posted December 1, 2005 Posted December 1, 2005 where did you go to check that? I have my own dedicated server. if you are on a Linux server, as root on the command line, type either # pine (better if you have it installed) or # mail you should be either checking that mailbox, or forwarding it to another address. Lots of good info goes there. I like pine as it is more user friendly then the plain mail command, but not all servers have pine installed.
Sonic98 Posted April 11, 2007 Posted April 11, 2007 Whatever e-mail address I have setup as the forum e-mail address is where returned e-mails go to. I have it set so people who have not validated only see one forum. Guests can post incase someone changes e-mails and needs to password reset or something. Did someone say they're able to have it automatically tell them what users are bouncing?
