IP.Subscriptions 1.0.0 Beta 3 Available

Updated: IP.Subscriptions 1.0.0 Beta 3 is available now!

We're pleased to announce that IP.Subscriptions 1.0.0 Beta is available for download from your client center.

This is the second beta release of the subscriptions manager that is compatible with IP.Board 3.0. Many long standing bugs and issues have been fixed in this release including:

  • Recurring subscription cancelation immediately ending subscription and demotes member
  • Multiple currency issues
  • Inaccurate reporting of totals
  • Incorrect end date calculation after upgrading
  • ...and many more

As always, please do be aware that this is a beta product and should not be used in a live environment without testing first. Please also be aware that currently only the PayPal and Postal Method gateways work correctly. Other gateways will be converted over the next few weeks once the framework has been finalized.

A fairly big change is how multiple currencies are handled. From 1.0.0 Beta 2 onwards you will need to specify a currency for each subscription package. This is to ensure that the correct value is calculated for payment regardless of the current exchange rate. If you are upgrading from a previous release and have non USD subscription packages set up, please go via the ACP and edit these to select the correct currency code to use.

The following items are to follow in the next release:
  • Pre-installed hook to display current subscription settings (You are subscribed to package X which runs out in X days)
  • Force the user to cancel a current recurring subscription before upgrading to another
  • Ability to renew a subscription before it expires (ACP configurable).

Due to a bug since fixed in IP.Board 3.0.2, you'll need to ensure that the guest member group can view the board and that you do not enforce all guests to log in if you are testing with PayPal.

Please report any issues in the bug tracker as normal.

I've got one suggestion for IP.Subscriptions... It'd be better if it was shown under IPS Add-Ons and Third Party Add-Ons in the Applications & Modules page. Since it is released as an Official IPS Add-On, it should at least be shown as one. Just a small suggestion, organization wise in ACP. :)

It is my understanding that it's going to turn into a community project once completed.

We are keeping development internal for the time being. We did decide at one point to make it a community project but we realise that the subscriptions manager is a vital component for some and as such we wanted to ensure that it was kept under the main development wing for now.

Thanks! I'm also using this on my private website and I make more money with it as with my 9 to 5 job as software developer. There would be no upgrade to IPB 3.0 without this for me.

Invision Power Services > all others

Great because I confirm that this is a really vital part of IPB for me too, I'm eager to install and see it working live

Why would the Subscription Manager be a community project? It makes absolutely no sense in doing it that way.

Because people who make points systems are then able to directly intergrate their systems into this, and perhaps eventually it can become a fully functional integration into IPB that allows people to easily install points/currency based systems on websites seamlessly.
I think its good that they do it that way.

Come again?

I'm glad the onus has changed to keeping it internaly tbh..

Would it be possible to add an option to allow multiple subscriptions? This is absolutely crucial to me and probably some other customers. I've made a suggestion on it, but I'm not sure if it was looked at.

Great work guys. Can't wait to be able to finally upgrade to IPB3 :-)

One questions, and perhaps recommendation. Will the subscription packages have unique URLs for registration?

Currently it is not possible to link directly to the registration page with a subscription package preselected.

asigno - love that idea. Let me see what I can do for the next release!

I've just released beta 3 to the download's area. Please upload all the new files and then visit your board's upgrade system to upgrade (www.domain.com/forums/admin/upgraade).

@iBr - multiple subscriptions is complex as you'd need to tier member groups, etc. It's something that is requested a lot and we'll see what we can do for a later release.

@King.L You can add payment gateways yourself. I'll write up some docs soon to show how to do this.

Here's a weird one for you. I had beta 2 on my forum and it didn't interupt the everyday flow of things but when I upgraded to beta 3 I couldn't access my site with www.c4davenue.com. I could only access it without the www. weird huh? I uninstalled subscriptions and it worked fine again.. weird.. I'm gonna try to reinstall it ... LOL

Okay must h ave been a fluke cuz it didn't happen on reinstall.. One question, how do you change the following message?

To subscribe, simply select the radio button next to your subscription choice and then choose which payment method you wish to use below. Clicking on the continue button will bring you to a confirmation screen and may ask for more details depending on which payment method you've chosen. If you have any questions about your current or past subscriptions, you should contact a member of the administrative team who will be able to deal with any enquiries you might have.
