  • Menu Manager: Hidden Items Highlighted When Visiting Duplicate Menu Links

I have two duplicate links in my Header Menu to account for different screen sizes. A set of links exist on the top-level, and is set to only be visible on Header Menu, while the duplicates are nested within the 'Browse' sub-menu (which I called 'Zones') and are only shown on the Sidebar Menu and Small screen menu.

A brief outline of the menu I have set up (relevant menu items bolded and underlined) :

    • 'Hot' (sub-menu)
    • News (link to Tag 'news')
    • Forums (external link to on-site forums app)
    • 'Zones' (Browse sub-menu)
      • News (link to Tag 'news')
      • Forums (in-house link to on-site forums app)
      • 'Articles' (pages database link)
      • 'Wiki' (pages database link)
      • etc etc
    • Activity (activity sub-menu, unchanged)

On desktop, the top-level 'News' tag link is visible and used to visit that page, while the 'News' tag link nested in 'Zones' is not visible. So the only method desktop users have to navigate to this part of the suite is with the top-level menu item.

However, when visiting that section of the suite, both the top-level 'News' menu item AND and the 'Zones' sub-menu are highlighted, suggesting that the user is browsing both of these places of the site at once.

    Could contain: File, Webpage, Person

Could contain: File, Baby, Person, Webpage

As you can see, the expanded 'Zones' sub-menu doesn't include a 'News' link, but because it is still active (just hidden from view), the suite understandably thinks that it should highlight the sub-menu. It can confuse users. Maybe there should be a fix that deactivates any menu item that is set to hide when on certain menus, or in certain screen views?

On a similar but slightly-different issue, because I am unable to create a duplicate internal menu item for 'Forums', I had to create an 'external link' item for the top-level item that links directly to the forums app. However, browsing this section of the site does not highlight this top-level item (again, understandable because Invision Community thinks it is an external link) but still highlights the 'Zones' sub-menu, where the internal 'Forums' menu item is again hidden.

Could contain: File, Webpage, Computer Hardware, Electronics, Hardware, Monitor, Screen

Could contain: File, Webpage, Text, Computer Hardware, Electronics, Hardware, Monitor, Screen

Would be good if an option was made available to place a second/multiple 'internal' app links in the menu manager to avoid this issue.

Reported as a bug as I believe the first one is an issue. The external link thing you would need to add as a discussion, as thats working as intended
