Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted March 4Mar 4 Hi, Are there any plans to remove AJAX entirely in the Invision Community Classic roadmap? Recently, it was removed from the new post refresh feature in topics, but do you also plan to remove automatic refresh for messages and notifications?
March 5Mar 5 Community Expert Management No, we're not on a mission to remove Ajax, we use it a lot.Removing the polling from topic view was because in most cases it never fired correctly, was inefficient and in most cases people don't tend to stay on a topic page for long enough to see it.
March 5Mar 5 Do topics not update with new posts anymore either when viewing them? I liked the pop up that said x amount of new replies and then clicking them showed them, why remove that? (if you have)

March 5Mar 5 That is the polling on topic view. Why's that been removed? It worked fine, it only stopped working fine for forums on cloudYou should be encouraging interaction, this and numerous changes lately (like no more popular topics) does the opposite. I suppose no topics will be popular at this rate anyway Edited March 5Mar 5 by marklcfc

March 5Mar 5 I saw that but it's wrong. 'most cases people don't tend to stay on a topic page for long enough' that's true for quiet forums, but active ones there's a good chance they'll see the pop up, especially if they are writing a reply.
March 5Mar 5 Author Exactly, with active forums and active threads, that is a problem.Don't take this as an attack or anything like that, but it will really make it harder for many communities to function. It may not have been effective but it fulfilled its role. Edited March 5Mar 5 by PanSevence
March 5Mar 5 I have seen "There are X replies in the topic" while typing a reply so many times, that I cannot imagine how to live without it. Cloud is too expensive for us. Thankfully one of the devs is developing an app for this, so we are not hopeless. I think it should be included in the core, because to move really useful functionality on 3rd party shoulders is someone else's practice, not IPS style :)

We sincerely ask the software developers to reconsider their decision or propose an alternative solution. On our forum, we’ve often had support threads where the author created a help request, and several people joined the discussion. However, a few of them ended up posting almost identical responses because they didn't see that someone had already asked the same question earlier.
March 5Mar 5 Author We're going to restore that functionality in 5.0.4.That's wonderful news, thank you for listening to us! ❤️❤️
March 5Mar 5 We're going to restore that functionality in 5.0.4.This is good news, what about popular topics? Is that being sorted out because currently trending / popular isn't doing anything worthwhile. The option to have popular topics (measured by posts over a certain time period) again should at least be there Edited March 5Mar 5 by marklcfc
March 5Mar 5 Author Let's not exaggerate, we managed to restore the refresh function, which is already a big achievement. Although marking a popular topic as hot after XX replies would be nice
