I gave "all contents" a good ol’ search for "Q&A" here in the forums, but nothing came up. So, here I am brand new to 4.7, flailing my way up the v5 mountain like a caffeinated squirrel, and I clicked "Prepare for v5." That’s when this happened:

Now, I have absolutely no idea what I did to enable Q&A (did I press a secret button? Whisper the wrong incantation?). I’m also not entirely sure what I need to do to disable it, or frankly, if disabling it is even a thing, I’m able to do.

So here I am, tangled in a web of change. Is it me who needs to change? Is it the setting? Is this some kind of philosophical lesson about the nature of change itself? Yes

Help. Please. Before I break something else.

Q&A (Question and Answer) is a forum type. If you have Q&A enabled on a Forum, you will likely want to change it to Discussion with the ability to mark a post as a solution. Otherwise, when you upgrade to version 5, it will automatically convert as Q&A forum types won't exist.

Cool, cool! I will have to go through them again, I don't remember setting that up like that.

If you have no q&a forums set up, then you have no issue there 🙂

I get the same message and don't have any Q&A forums either. There's a bug in the check because it retrieves not only Q&A-type forums but also whether the Enable Solved? setting is enabled for normal Discussion-type forums (which is retained in v5 as Topic Solutions).

@Marc Can you add a bug report for this?

I will have to admit, I have only been working with Invision Board (https://codenamejessica.com) since Tuesday (12/24/24 -- Hey that is all divisible by each other... off topic here, move on) ... Anyways, I haven't even noticed the different types of Forums you can setup until I started this topic. I have made so many changes to the template, and the integrations, I am worried that I will have to start all over.

I had a really nice setup on NodeBB... But they developed their system just was too difficult, and not developer friendly. Which honestly, I am more proficient in NodeJS than I am in PHP, so that should say something.

For the record, there are basically three types of forums in v5:

  1. Discussions - Users can start topics that other users can reply to. Replies are shown in the order they're posted.
  2. Category - Container for other forums. Nothing can be posted directly within them.
  3. Redirect - Redirects users to another location when clicked on.

Yeah, that is what I've witnessed in most forum applications. Back in the day when I developed in C, I was one of the builders of Telegard BBS, and that is what we pretty much had.

I just wanted to share my appreciation for this phrasing.
