Colombia Humana Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 Hello there, Is it safe to allow accents in Display Names? From a technical point of view: á, é, í, ó, ú, ñ... and its uppercase versions. Regards.
Solution Malwarebytes Forums Posted March 17, 2023 Solution Posted March 17, 2023 This post was recognized by Marc! Malwarebytes Forums was awarded the badge 'Helpful' and 5 points. I don't know about it being a security issue but it sure can make things difficult in some reports or when searching for certain items. Spammers love it too. We settled on Aa-Zz [0-9] and _ for all names a couple years ago and that alone helped at least on a small scale to cut back on some spammers. SeNioR- 1
SeNioR- Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 (edited) From an SEO point of view, this is not recommended. Edited March 17, 2023 by SeNioR-
Marc Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 As mentioned above by Malwarebytes, from a security standpoint, no. However some prefer to exclude these for both the reasons mentioned
opentype Posted March 20, 2023 Posted March 20, 2023 (edited) Just to get all the possible views: I see no problem with it at all. It’s not the early days of the internet or the personal computer where sticking to ASCII was necessary or recommended to avoid technical problems. It’s the Unicode era now. If my user’s names are François, Käthe, Zoë, Carmiña, Åbjørn and so on, I am happy to have them use their correct spelling. The software can deal with it, search engines can deal with it. It’s really not a problem. Edited March 20, 2023 by opentype Marc 1
