Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
AndreasW2000 Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 Hi everyone, I am forced to finally upgrade to Invision Board 4 as my hoster is going to remove PHP 5.x support and Invision Board 3.x does not seem to run on PHP 7.3 Which is fine, as I wanted to upgrade a long time ago. Unfortuately, my hoster is also removing MySQL altogether, replacing it with MariaDB. Does anyone have experience with running IP.Board 4 with MariaDB and if so which version and what are the caveats?
Ryan Ashbrook Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 There should be no difference in how the software operates between MySQL and MariaDB.
CoffeeCake Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 MariaDB is fully interchangeable with MySQL in terms of IPS. You should have no issues. Check your host with the IPS4 compatibility tester before proceeding. Here are the minimum versions required (from the client area download): PHP 7.1.0 or above (7.3.0 or above recommended). MySQL 5.5.3 or above (5.6.2 or above recommended). Here's the IPS4 compatibility checker: For the MariaDB versions that correspond with the above, see:https://mariadb.com/kb/en/mariadb-vs-mysql-compatibility/
Runar Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 I've been using MariaDB for years, and I've never had any issues, and I don't think I had to make any adjustments when installing Invision Community. Just to be safe, I advice you to take a closer look at the official MariaDB vs. MySQL page from MariaDB, which includes an incompatibilities list.
Rhett Posted October 19, 2020 Posted October 19, 2020 MariaDB is the preferred solution, and default on many Linux distros for the last few years, no issues at all, nothing to worry about.
AndreasW2000 Posted October 20, 2020 Author Posted October 20, 2020 Great to hear, thanks a lot everyone! Rhett 1
