Alternative system for adding secondary groups?

Hi there,

I'm new to IPB and in the process of switching my community over from SMF. We have a variety of subgroups some of our members may be assigned to (up to 5-7 in some cases), and the default process of Select+Click in the very small box is a little cumbersome, given that we have ~50 groups. Is there an alternative method to doing this? SMF uses a checkbox system and it's perfect for this type of situation, but a cursory search doesn't show any way of changing this.
