Set avatar limits separately (widht x height)

Would it hurt the forum layout or anything if admins could separately set width and height limit on avatars? Meaning that users won't be forced to use square or round images anymore, but they will be able to use a rectangle image for example (e.g.: 150x300).

(I sent a support request asking how I could set those limits separately and I was pointed to this category)
