Any way to show the last "x" number of topics posted?

Or just all topics in reverse order, based on start date, not last reply.

This is something i wrote a webpage for for my moderators to use to keep an eye on new content. However I wondered if it is possible to do it with the stream tools in the new one. Currently however I am either doing it wrong, or you have to have posting activity too.
