Display data from database

Hi all

Hope this is the right forum. 

I have some data that is populated into the mysql database externally. Is there some simple way to retrive and display it in the header of the site. I am running ipboard 4.1.

Thanks for any guidelines, i was reading about the classDB.php but i assume there might be some easier way to do this.
