getting sql error trying to start upgrade to 4.1

Hi,

as posted in the link below, I am trying to upgrade from 2.3.6 to 4.1.

I completed the upgrade to 3.4.8 and checked it worked ok. All seemed fine apart from the css and template being stored in the cache, so I have to reinstate that.

I downloaded and unpacked the 4. files, uploaded them tothe forums directory, and then went to start /admin/upgrade. It gives me the login page, but regardless of what id and password I put in I get a display saying 'Incorrect arguments to mysqld_stmt_execute '.

Any idea what I have wrong, or missed ?
