Up-selling during registration

Here is what I want to do.
as a person is purchasing a membership I want to offer them an additional product. If they purchase the additional product they will then be offered another product.
It must work in that order. First buy membership, then be offered item 2 ... then be offered item 3 ... and so on
Is this possible to do in the current product? Is there any plan to add this functionality?
