The Follow settings are confusing, can someone help? (And suggestion to make clearer)

If I click to follow a topic the options are:

  • A notification and an email when new content is posted Change how the notification is sent
  • One email per day with all new content from that day
  • One email per week with all new content from that week
  • Do not send me any notifications

If I click the red above it takes me to the auto-settings:

Method to use for content I follow automatically

  • A notification when new content is posted
  • One email per day with all new content from that day
  • One email per week with all new content from that week
  • Show pop-up when I have a new message

My question is, how do I get an inline notification only? It seems I can only select notification and email in the topic. But if I click to view the auto-settings it says notification only. But that only affects auto-followed content, so why does the link take you there (red text) and make it seem like you can change that setting, since it only affects auto?

Why are the auto and individual settings different? Auto even has pop-up.

Thanks

When you click "Change how the notification is sent" the relevant option is highlighted.

That clarifies it, thanks! But I had no idea! This is pretty neat.

When you click the link it goes to the general page and I was looking at the top where the radio buttons are. You should have it set so it targets that section or setting and highlights in maybe pink, I honestly didn't even see that.

You should also probably make these statements say the same thing.

A notification and an email when new content is posted
A notification when new content is posted

I'd go with #2 on both. It is confusing and makes you think you are getting an email when I have email unchecked. So I never checked it. And when you click the link and see the setting it makes you think they are different settings, but those are for auto.

I understand after your post but it is confusing.
