Resize images using the editor

The editor could support the resizing of images, after you insert a picture in the post, it could be possible to click on it and resize it.

Something like the example above.

There are a kazillion programs around to re-size an image before you upload/use it, so I see no need.

I would like to see this option too, with IPB4 maybe

My suggestion is precisely because we often want to insert an image from internet in the post, and she is very large, and must download the image and resize it or use some other site that does this.
With this function natively I do not need to stay out of the editor.
vBulletin had it and was very good, but they removed that function (not sure why).

Which is exactly what you should do. What you are asking is for IPS to add a feature so you can take the lazy route.

It also encourages hot linking, and linking copyright material: which is maybe why vBulletin removed it.

Quite honestly, I like this idea. I have hundreds of images saved to my computer that I've had to resize to fit into my post. It would be nice if IPB could resize it so I wouldn't have to download the picture, resize it, and then reupload it to an image hosting site. Yah, it is the lazy route, but it's a matter of convenience. It would be nice to see this in IPB 4 maybe...

No actually i agree with the OP, just for the ease of use. Most of my members are lazy and they are bored to crop the image...so? You have no control on that, that function would help a lot...

Though firstly, i'd like to be able to align the images without any bugs...*cough* *cough*

...some might refer to it as the "easy, convenient" route instead. I'd love to see resize, crop, and rotate (in 90° increments) as core features in the editor, though presumably this is something CKEditor would handle, rather than Invision. I think they already have rudimentary support for resize, so perhaps this is already on their radar.

I much rather prefer having the forum auto-resize large images. More convenient for users and already implemented.

I don't think that has to be mutually exclusive: the forums can continue to auto-resize large images, and members can make the images smaller than that if they want to. I know it's hard to understand the utility for this, since basically by construction everyone at the Invision forums is tech-savy, but I have a LOT of members who are not, and have no idea how to resize their images using an image editor. The same is true (probably even MORE so) for rotate and crop.

Why would a member want it smaller?

But one does not invalidate the other. That is, if the user he wished, create a topic, more elaborate with pictures and such, he could do it by resizing the images.

Would that be the same, you managed to encapsulate the whole idea of my suggestion. I agree on all points mentioned.

The easy solution is to replace lightbox completely with a newer version. We did that on our own IPB installation and attached big images/attachments are not an issue any more as they respect browser width.
