Woodsman Posted April 14, 2012 Posted April 14, 2012 Unmanaged Dedicated Server. Pain when something goes wrong but alas you got to learn something. But isn't that the reason most of us are here?
MikeSpears Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I currently run my forum on a colocated Dell PowerEdge R210 that I run a ton of other things on. I use VMWare ESXi as the bare metal OS, with a CentOS 6/cPanel Virtual Machine, and I've got a bunch of other virtual machines on the server
AlexJ Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 Are you running windows as main OS? I tried to run VMWare on windows OS and I/O usage was terrible.
Aussie Cable Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 VMWare ESXi is an OS (bare metal), it does not run on Windows.
Bexit Posted April 23, 2012 Posted April 23, 2012 I'm using a Linux VPS: 5GB Ram and GenuineIntel, Intel® Xeon®CPU E5620 @ 2.40GHz I also run a game server which is integrated with my forums, which is why I require more ram.

Steves Web Hosting Posted April 24, 2012 Posted April 24, 2012 After years of using a dedicated server I made the move to putting my own machines in different colo facilities late last year. My main server uses an E3-1230 and a RAID 10 array, a chron job rsyncs the cPanel backup directory to a backup colo server thousands of miles away and through a different colo provider. I'm liking the colo thing so far.
