NenaDice Posted December 6, 2010 Posted December 6, 2010 File Name: Minimum Characters/Words in Posts/ThreadsFile Submitter: NenaDiceFile Submitted: 05 Dec 2010File Updated: 05 Sep 2011File Category: Hooks and Plugins This hook will set a minimum of characters and/or words limit in posts/topics. After you install the MinChar.xml file through Manage Hooks in your Admin Panel, you can configure it at the System Settings. There you will see a new setting called NenaDice. Click on it and configure the hook to your needs. There you can enable/disable each setting separately. By default it is set to 10 characters and 5 words. But you can increase or decrease the number of minimum characters and words to your liking. You can also enter your own custom error message and as last but not least you can choose which groups and forums can bypass the minimum characters and words limit. Originally was made for the characters limit but I expanded it further by adding a minimum limit for words too. The 3.2x version can be foud here:Click here to download this file
Matt Enloe Posted December 8, 2010 Posted December 8, 2010 This breaks quoting in enabled forums. Test it in Formalized Debate on my site.
NenaDice Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 This breaks quoting in enabled forums. Test it in Formalized Debate on my site. May I see a screenshot please? This mod doesn't affect/touch the quoting in any way, shape or form. Just to be double sure I tested it again at my test forum and I didn't see any problem at all with quoting and/or any other thing.
NenaDice Posted December 9, 2010 Author Posted December 9, 2010 At this screenshot you posted, I see only the error message which looks fine to me. What exactly do you mean by "breaking"? All the hook does, is it stops users posting posts/threads that contain less characters set by the admin. It doesn't affect the quote and/or any other setting.
Matt Enloe Posted December 9, 2010 Posted December 9, 2010 Except you can't even get to the post screen. When you press the button to reply via quote or start a new thread, you're hit with an error and there's no way to subvert it without exemption which defeats the purpose of paying $6 for this mod... If you don't believe me feel free to go to my site and try it yourself.

NenaDice Posted December 10, 2010 Author Posted December 10, 2010 I this with or without file edits? No file edits are required. Thank you. No file edits. You are welcome. And thank you for reporting the bug :)
insectdude Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 Any chance of extending this to give the option of setting a word-based rather than character-based minimum? Also, will it work correctly with multi-byte characters?
Matt Enloe Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 Would also appreciate the ability to make quoted text not count.
NenaDice Posted February 8, 2011 Author Posted February 8, 2011 The hook is expanded with the word-based option as well.
ChrisG2010 Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 I have purchased this modification. :) Hope you continue to update it.
NenaDice Posted July 5, 2011 Author Posted July 5, 2011 I have purchased this modification. Hope you continue to update it. Thank you for your business  I am planning to update all my paid mods with the new version as well once the 3.2 final version is released.
Matt Enloe Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 I would like to see the ability to define which forums ONLY have this enabled as that is what I use it for. When combined with the Social Groups application, it requires manual admin removal from the list which is very tedious.

You can choose which forums you want to exlude from the minimum characters/words limit.

I'd like to be able to have it the other way around, for inclusion. Right now I cannot set new forums to be automatically excluded.
ChrisG2010 Posted August 10, 2011 Posted August 10, 2011 Would highly appreciate it! I really need it since I run a paid to post site that needs to restrict those of foreign country members from posting short posts.
ChrisG2010 Posted August 18, 2011 Posted August 18, 2011 3.2 has been out for a while and this still isnt updated..It's a paid script and I believe it should have already been updated a little quicker then it is...
insectdude Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 Any news on when this will be updated for 3.2? It's the only addon my site uses (paid and free) that is yet to be updated.
NenaDice Posted September 3, 2011 Author Posted September 3, 2011 Any news on when this will be updated for 3.2? It's the only addon my site uses (paid and free) that is yet to be updated. Atm I am very busy with RL and I do not have much free time at all. I will get to it as soon as I can. Thank you all for your understanding :)
