Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
U2 Fan Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Well, I've just had the most unusual piece of feedback from one of my new members... but I think they've got a fair enough point. I received an email from a new member, asking:Who the heck wrote my profile? Shouldn't that be a personal option? Initially, I thought she was referring to one of the optional questions that I have included as part of the registration process. However, after asking her to clarify what she was asking about, I got this reply:The bit that I thought was really weird was how it says "Not telling!" next to my gender! I definitely wouldn't have put that!! Hahaha. Soooome people! I should point out that I know this member personally and she is actually very intelligent - but, like many other people, she's simply not familiar with online forums and she's been a bit confused by some information that's been entered into her profile by default. I wrote back to her explaining that she needs to specify her gender so that it doesn't say "Not telling!" anymore. Her last reply was:I thought it must be something like that! Made me sound like a transvestite!! Thanks for clearing it up. Hahaha. So, my suggestion (as per my subject-line) would be to change the wording of "Not telling!" to "Unspecified".

3DKiwi Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 You can change virtually all words in the language manager to whatever you want. 3DKiwi
DrCru Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 You can change virtually all words in the language manager to whatever you want. 3DKiwi Yep, I prefer going with Male/Female/Porpoise myself :P
U2 Fan Posted July 27, 2010 Author Posted July 27, 2010 You can change virtually all words in the language manager to whatever you want. Sure you can. But then you have to change it every time you upgrade. Also, generally speaking, I submit feedback in the hope that it might improve the software for everyone who purchases it... not just because I want to change something on my own forums. :)
NeilC Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Sure you can. But then you have to change it every time you upgrade. Is that right? I've only made language changes once (after upgrading to 3.1.1) and I haven't upgraded again since, so I haven't experienced what happens in an upgrade. That's gonna be a pain if I have to redo my translations when I upgrade to 3.1.2
bfarber Posted July 27, 2010 Posted July 27, 2010 Guys, "gender" is a custom field in your ACP. If you want to change it, do so by editing the custom fields under the Members tab. There's no update or setting or option or language string or anything like that required. And we don't change your custom fields during upgrades.
