Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
Katsuma Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Root Admins should be able to block registration by going to their My Controls. This would be helpful in stopping a surprise bot/scrip attact from a wave of registrations and give them time to go to the ACP to make other changes and updates. Also, a prompt should also be in the ACP area (and in the forum) that notifies that registrations are disabled as with the "Offline" feature.
Lindsey_ Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Sounds good.. Pretty sure IPB 3 is feature locked now tho...
Ziv Grosu Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 A quick admin control area sounds interesting. Inscrease your imagination, and what's about "ACP built in the forum" ?
Lindsey_ Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 Inscrease your imagination, and what's about "ACP built in the forum" ? haha. I don't want the acp built into the forums like SMF has

bfarber Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I can't imagine how much quicker it possibly is to go to my controls to shut off registration than it is to go to the ACP. Seems like useless functionality personally.

No. That's not so good. if the admin account get hacked, I could be "viewable" by the hacker and that why I like the I can rename the folder where the files are and remove the link from the forum.I can't imagine how much quicker it possibly is to go to my controls to shut off registration than it is to go to the ACP. Seems like useless functionality personally. If someone had 50 boards, won't they have to sign into there ACP's (on each board) 50 times? At least if they are logged into the forum already, all they have to do is click on their My Control then search for they option to turn it off.

If you're going to let your browser log you into the forums, why not let it log you into the ACP also? If you do that, it's really only one extra click.

In one sentence you're talking about the ACP being compromised, and then in the next you are talking about adding an admin-only option on the board end. These are contradicting points of view. Personally, if it's an administrative task I believe it should be in the admin control panel. There can be debate about what an admin's duties are vs a moderator's duties, but shutting an entire board off seems to be an administrative task to me.
Michael Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 A big -1 from me. If you start adding things to the board that were things you needed to login to the AdminCP to get to, then people will want other things moved over there too. Pretty soon you've got a mini AdminCP in the board that you then have to make sure stays in synch with any changes you do make in the AdminCP. The AdminCP should be the place to go to adjust these things, keeping it there and potentially .htaccess, renamed directory, removed link, and non-cookie login protected is more important than saving a click or two, especially considering this issue the topic is requesting is not something that you've probably had to mess with for months prior to this recent wave of spam attacks.

That's why I hide my admin panel.
