dougbrowne Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 Am i allowed to run a few IPB forums as long as there running on a LAN webserver thats not accessible anywhere besides my home? Or weather accessible on the internet or not i can't run more then 1 regular board and 1 test board? Of course the IPB boards on my LAN will only be accessible by me? So can I or can i not?
dougbrowne Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 opps... sorry wrong area Staff please move this.
Guest Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I'd figure it would be ok, I think the 1 testboard refers to a public test board (that's not accessible by the public). I run a local host environment as well as I do my development on there.
stobbo Posted April 16, 2007 Posted April 16, 2007 I don't know if it is strictly allowed, but I can see IPS having a problem with operating more than one test board on your localhost.
Digi Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 Your license only allows for one live and one development site. Just because it is on your home LAN doesn't mean you can install 10. ;)
Alex Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 I only use 1 localhost at the moment, but does that mean we cant have another one for testing converge etc.?

Just because it is on your home LAN doesn't mean you can install 10. ;)But my guess would still be that IPS are busy enough as it is removing illegal, public boards than really worrying about the number of completely isolated development boards behind firewalls that are set up by paying customers and only used by one person. It could even be to their advantage. More third-party code is good for the community, or, for those not developing, then more testing saves IPB resources on needless tickets. Installing a fresh board when developing mods avoids conflicts with previously added code, and it's also a lot faster than cleaning up an old board. Not deleting old boards mean that you can continue to assist others with their questions for legacy versions.I've never seen a proper clarification of the legalities though. I've only ever seen them talk about one live site and one online, testing board that's closed for registration. Perhaps this could be abused if they gave permission to multiple localhost boards? ("I accidentally opened those ports on my firewall, and suddenly all of my friends registered. It wasn't meant to happen. Honestly!").
Debbie Posted April 17, 2007 Posted April 17, 2007 The IP.Board license permits you to install one 'live' installation and a secondary installation for testing purposes only. The test board must be inaccessible from the internet/closed to registration.

The license states, as Debbie said above, one live and one for development that is restricted from the public.

Alex Posted April 18, 2007 Posted April 18, 2007 If the board has registrations off, or if its offline from public, its legal.

If you have 5 live boards, you may have 5 test boards. One live board, one test board.AH Modding, there's no point installing two test boards to test Converge if you only have one live license. IPS has a point there. Set up two test boards, you no doubt plan on setting up two live boards.
