Viewing users profile access through external URL

is it possible to make viewing profiles as external url

like if someone click on users then they get to see the profile
which links to www.yourdomain.com/forum/index.php?showuser=2

instead of that can it be like " www.yourdomain.com/forum/username


could that be possibly done
