VogonFord Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 Hello, my name is VogonFord. I'm a moderator for SimaqianStudio History Forum. Recently we've been coming up with an annoying bug in IPB 2.1, which is that if a member adds "-" before and after the members name, it doesn't register the member correctly but allows the member to post. "-world series of poker bracelets-" was one we had yesterday. I know we can delete the posts, but as we don't want the entire community having moderator rights, the power to delete is only within about 6 to 8 active moderators and our admin at a time. With a forum that gets hundreds upon hundreds of posts a day, it becomes a hassle to control all of them. The problem is this bug keeps us from banning that member's email, or if it becomes bad, their IP. I was wondering if IPB 2.2 (as I'm not in the mood to read all 154 pages of the Admin Documentation to find it) has deleted this bug from IPB's coding. Thanks,VFEDIT: Oh crap, clicked on the wrong forum. Sorry moderator. You can move this.
Why Two Kay Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 This is not a support forum, and you're best bet is to get your forum admin to register at IPS-Beyond or submit a support ticket.(However, just to say, it sounds like it is just an unregistered member posting and not a registered one. Meaning that guest posting is enabled.)
VogonFord Posted October 22, 2006 Posted October 22, 2006 I know what's wrong and we can't fix it (it's a mess up in 2.1's coding, it's not guest posting). I was wondering if it was resolved in 2.2It's a feedback question about 2.2, not asking for help to run 2.1.

.KX Posted October 23, 2006 Posted October 23, 2006 Are you sure they aren't using chr(0xCA)?You can disable the use of chr(0xCA) in the ACP, so...just do that.
