Guest Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 I like both vb and ipb, they have both their advantages. owned license and 4 months left on your license? I'll take it for 90. ;)
TwistedWeather Posted November 24, 2006 Posted November 24, 2006 Those who already have a license need not worry. It will be cheaper with the new prices. Only those who dont get a new license by the deadline needs to worry. So if you dont have one NOW is the time to get one. :)Personally with all the new software out there i dont think it is a wise thing for IPS to do. It would be one thing if IPS only had phpbb or smf to worry about but from glancing around lately i see a couple of newer ones who are going for the throat by offerring all of what you all offer with features and good security etc. One or two of them i believe is free as well. So keep a eye on it guys and dont over extend yourselves. Repeat business is good but you want newer customers as well to keep it going. Raising prices wont accomplish that.
nirvanafans Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I don't get the big deal if you renew your license before it's due than it's cheaper. It be just $25 for 6 months. Granted no support, but if upgraded correctly, and back up your database before upgrading it, then it shouldn't be a huge problem. Other invision mod sites members are pretty helpful if you need help. Also if a person has php skills than he or she should be able to do it by themselves. If upgrading is an issues like hosting, then I suggest move to a different host, because it's pretty clear what versions of php and myql you should have. $25 dollars still gets you newest version of IPB. Inflation from almost free 3 years ago to soon more than $185 is little insane. Infact it's more than VB are in prices. You have to put into count people will expect more out of IPS more than ever too. If they don't live up or put out better versions once a year, then I think people start looking at VB more and possible a 3rd competitor can step up more (mybb or XMB or Phpbb or something else). It's a business risk for IPS to jump the prices of IPB up so much, because IPS life line is IPB.
zippy Posted December 7, 2006 Posted December 7, 2006 I'm confused  I got the perpetual license in 05. Does that mean i get all updates /version free for life, but have to pay for support packs when i need support?
