soft.register Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 When using an ext auth module in a corporate environment, or similar organisation where an authoritative master data source exists that holds staff/user records, the IPB board should have an option to get profile information at member registration from the corporate LDAP/AD datasource. Authoritative datasources exist in organisations to reduce the need for data duplication, and eliminate sources for error. It would be a desirable addition when using IPB in organisations that use LDAP/AD datasources to lookup this information and insert it into the IPB database. Profile options would need to added for internal and any additional profile fields added, to query the ext database sources for profile information/data. At registration time the user login-auth& password would have to be authenticated against the ext datasource so that the profile information could be looked up - this appears to be already done when choosing the option to automatically register new users who are not yet present in the database. profile fields that would normally exist in corporate datasources would include.Full Name Location (department) email address Phone Title and many other entries that are semi standard in LDAP/AD datasources. {note that the LDAP.conf file may require an extra option if this data is not searchable/locatable via the normal LDAP/AD search base} This would be a more appropriate choice for environments where the board is restricted entirely or predominantly to employees/members of that organisation, and the corporate LDAP/AD directory is the master authoritative datasource for that organisationP.S. the common master key in corporate or equivalent environments is usually the uid (username), not email address.
