  1. For $10 a month, why not just buy a cheap hosting plan? I've been satisfied with HostGator ever since I switched from Netbunch, after they crashed my entire site. Been with HG for 2+ years and I've never been happier. Plus, I have a lot of bandwidth and space to play around with. In addition, I pay for an IPB license as well.
  2. Sounds good to me. I just think that Users should be able to toggle on off which hooks they want displayed. There could also be a feature in the ACP where the Admin can toggle on or off which Hooks cannot be managed by Users. Sort of like:
  3. I've been thinking about this one while installing hooks but how about adding this option so that every member can manage which hooks they want to appear when they log into any message board using IPB 3: adding a Hooks Management section in "My Controls" and allowing members to toggle on or off whatever hooks are installed.
  4. You guys are welcome. I thought I'd pass the congrats along from the members of my community. They really like it and say that it's a big improvement over the previous version.
  5. Before upgrading to IPB3, there were some members in my community who would have problems with 2.3 such as logging in or other access problems. While I was unsure of how my community would take to IPB3, I have to say that the majority of members on my site have been pleased with the new version. Most of the problems that were associated with IPB 2.3 had been fixed with IPB3 and everyone seems happy with the new version including the new features. While some bugs have been corrected, I've been told, with 3.0.1, it's been the general consensus that my members like the new IPB. The only issue I've heard so far is that some of my members would like to see a feature which would allow them to turn the smilies or emoticons "on or off" so that they don't have to view them. While there are some areas that IPB3 could stand improvement in, I can honestly report that the new software receives positive marks from my 700+ members.
  6. Albus, thank you. That answers my question. I appreciate the reply.
  7. I'm hoping you are correct, M4rtin. I would just hate to have to reinstall everything all over again.
  8. I've just discovered something that I'm wondering about. When you have skins already installed and you import a hook I'm wondering if when you install a new skin if you have to reinstall the hooks in order for them to be used in the skins. When you install a hook, the hooks are also installed into those skins that are currently installed. Do future installation of skins already check for what hooks are installed and import those hooks immmediately as you install the new skins?
  9. I deleted them. I have no idea why they were inserted because I've never used that program before. Oh well.
  10. Brandon, I have never installed OC Portal on my site. The only CMS I ever installed that attached to my forums is MKP. Here is the problem screeny: I need help in removing it then ... but I've never installed OCP because I didn't like the format it used.
  11. Brandon, I have never installed OC Portal on my site. The only CMS I ever installed that attached to my forums is MKP. Here is the problem screeny: I need help in removing it then ... but I've never installed OCP because I didn't like the format it used.
  12. go and edit your profile and you'll see it. it shows up on my forums when I edit my profile.
  13. Could someone explain to me what "ocp_sites, ocp_points_gained_voting, etc" are? They are popping up in the members profile in IPB3.
  14. Unfortunately, I still get the same image, misaligned ...
  15. Thanks, Wolfie, I'll have to remember that about reporting the next then. I just thought that this forum was feedback. :D
  16. There seems to be an error ... or rather an alignment problem. After the upgrade, I noticed, when looking at my profile, that the sections underneath my profile information is misaligned. Does anyone have a fix for this? Take a look under "Previous Fields" where "Gender", "Goddess", and "Latest Visitors" are. Gener and Goddess seem to be misaligned. These are custom fields I created in IPB 2.3.1 for my forums.
  17. Oh, you have it disguises at the "Help" icon. Thanks, Brandon. Appreciate it.
  18. Are you serious? Or are you pulling my leg?
  19. I just noticed something. After my forums were upgraded I just noticed that the BBCODE link is missing when you create a new topic or post a new message. What happened to it?
  20. bf, I should be reneweing my license in the next day or so. Exactly how long is it taking to upgrade from 2.3.6 to 3.0? I'm not referring to how long the install takes not from when you put in the request (before anyone makes an obvious statement) but rather how long the conversaion takes.
  21. if the release comes out then, December 2012, then I suspect that IPS will go out of business ... because nobody in their right mind would renew their licenses :(
  22. Then, you haven't been paying attention. Recently, the RIAA and the MPAA have been going after website owners who run software and forum software where IP Addresses log the actions of each and every user that appears on your site. Well, courts are consistantly ruling that website owners are required to turn over their logs rergarding IP addresses so that they can identify what user is downloading what material. Since these cases have set the precedents for handing over access logs regarding IP addresses, if someone posts something on your forums and you have deliberately deactivated that tracking, you can be held liable by the courts for that. Every single user is responsible for the conduct committed under their IP Address. If you disable IP Tracking on your forums, the website owner can be held liable for negligence if that tracking is disabled if a serious crime has been committed. Because while the end user can be tracked via his or her IP Address, when you disable the end user's IP Address on your website, then you need to be aware that you place the liability on yourself as the owner of that website because you disabled a tool that would prevent someone from committing a crime or allow the police to apprehend that person.
  23. iBot, who said anything about bashing anything? I didn't. I'm just saying that there's no reason to disable IP Tracking and if you're doing so then you're doing something that you shouldn't be doing in the first place. This means that you're breaking the law. If a particular member wants to disable his or her IP Address then there are somewhere programs out there that will do just that. There's no reason to disable the secutiy feature from IPB. There's Hide My IP: http://www.hide-my-ip.com/ There's also using anonymous proxy servers to also hide your IP Address. There are many alternatives out there and none of them involve modding IPB with a new hack.
  24. I have to agree because even if you manage to remove IP Tracking from the software, your webhost logs everything committed to your site. But, there's no way to remove it because the ACP records everything ... in order to remove all IP Tracking, that's going to involve someone creating a "Full Mod" for that and I doubt anyone would create one because most would have no reason to use that feature. I would say that if you're concerned about that, then you need to find a forum software other than IPB. It just sounds like someone is asking for this in advance because they think someone is gonna request logs of these users. They might want to think about hosting their website outside the country they're worried about. BE WARNED: If you remove IP Tracking from every aspect of your forum software and you are in a country or nation that requests information about this member or that member, as it pertains to their IP Address and you don't have IP Tracking, the owner of that website could find themselves legally responsible for the posted comments of their users. Obviously, when you removing that IP Tracking, you become legally responsible for those posted comments since they are posted on your website. It's akin to being an accessory to a crime, meaning you could face the same charges. Here in the United States, website operators are required by law to cooperate with law enforcement agencies. In the event that they don't the courts will interced or your webhost will intercede by shutting down your website and providing all pertinent information to the police of federal authorities. You need to be mindful of the laws of your country. If you host your website in a country that has laws against posting certain things, then you, as the owner can be held liable.
  25. Why doesn't IPS just post something on the homepage that indicates how someone can report IPB piracy because I'm seeing a lot of these type of topics created on the forums here.
