peter gariepy Posted October 16 Posted October 16 Most of the spam i see if new users sending private messages. How can i restrict/limit their ability to send PMs?
Adriano Faria Posted October 16 Posted October 16 If you don’t want to create a new member group (most common advice here), you can use this: https://www.sosinvision.com.br/index.php?/file/249-content-items-required-to-start-private-messages/
Jim M Posted October 16 Posted October 16 The current best practice in our software would be to have a new member group which you promote members into once they have reached an approved post (or similar). That new member group would have the more elaborate permissions, such as no content moderation, ability to send messages, etc... For more on group promotion, see:
Gary Posted October 17 Posted October 17 Hi @peter gariepy, I would definitely go down the path of setting up a new member group for members that have made the required posts to enable private messaging. Edit your existing default member group to "Newbies" or whatever and promote to the new group after x posts. If you want to remain contactable for guests or new members just in case, you can still do so by enabling the Contact Us setting (AdminCP -> System -> Settings -> Contact Us). Obviously assuming you haven't already done so, but if you have, then you will provide your members a means of contacting you. Another way is to set up a forum that this "Newbies" group can view, read and post to, but no other member group can.
