Does anyone know if there's a modification that allows you to send a message to two members, without needing to copy and paste the same message and sending it twice using the alerts tool?

Alerts at present can only be sent to an individual or a group. If you wish to see the functionality to send to more than one person, please feel free to post feedback detailed what features you wish to see added, of course 

Does anyone know if there's a third-party existing plugin/app that brings further functions to the alerts feature?

No, this is a pain point. 

Over time, I've simply copied and pasted the Alert messages into my own simple TXT file.

To be honest, I think this does the trick. It's very convenient!

I don't know if @Joel R, would prefer additional features but this would do what I want rather nicely.
