Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
Aiet Posted August 22 Posted August 22 Hello, I had a site running IPS Community Suite which I installed or upgraded in 2016. I am not sure about the exact version. It was hosted on a shared hosting platform (HostGator) and everything was working perfectly. The site did not have much traffic and was pretty much kept as an archive as no new posts or members were allowed. The site stopped working all of a sudden in 2021. I tried resolving the issues today by manually setting PHP to 5.6 in .htaccess and by resetting the db password. I now get the following error: Quote Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Exception' with message 'Could not initiate the registry, the settings cache is empty or missing' in /home1/hostuser/public_html/admin/sources/base/ipsRegistry.php:1856 Stack trace: #0 /home1/hostuser/public_html/admin/sources/base/ipsRegistry.php(507): ipsRegistry->setUpSettings() #1 /home1/hostuser/public_html/admin/sources/base/ipsController.php(77): ipsRegistry::init() #2 /home1/hostuser/public_html/admin/sources/base/ipsController.php(64): ipsController->init() #3 /home1/hostuser/public_html/index.php(26): ipsController::run() #4 {main} thrown in /home1/hostuser/public_html/admin/sources/base/ipsRegistry.php on line 1856 Do you happen to have any advice on how to revive the site or perhaps upgrade it to the latest Invision Community Classic? Many thanks!
teraßyte Posted August 22 Posted August 22 (edited) Considering how old it is, trying to get it working again is going to be a lot of work, especially since it uses PHP/MySQL versions that have reached their EOL date long ago. For upgrading from old versions to the latest available you can check this guide instead: More specifically, the part near the end for legacy upgrades. Aiet Posted August 22 Author Posted August 22 Many thanks for your reply. Since the document you referenced mentions that there is no direct upgrade path from 2.x and recommends hiring 3rd party providers, it there a chance to find out whether I am using IP Board 2.x or 3.x (which at least has an "unmaintained upgrade path from 3.x is available for use directly from invision community")? Thanks again.

teraßyte Posted August 22 Posted August 22 (edited) Considering the error you posted before, I believe you have a 3.x version, but I'm not sure which one specifically. If you provide a URL to your site it's possible to find out. Edited August 22 by teraßyte
DawPi Posted August 22 Posted August 22 I remember there was a way with a upgradeFinish/ folder to re-set the settings cache. As I have it and there is indeed such information: Quote /* This script completes the upgrade from modules onwards Move the 'upgradeFinish' folder into your 'admin' directory and access via your web browser */ I can share it if you like and it's allowed by IPS of course.
