Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted May 31, 2024May 31 Is there a way - perhaps an automated way - to find members with who are are associated with the same IP addresses. Would like to use an investigative tool to help locate members are registering with multiple accounts using different names. I can see mention of this years ago - and suggesting it would be an easy tool to be added in future updates. Has it been done? Thanks! Bob
May 31, 2024May 31 Community Expert There is nothing within the platform at present that can give you a list as such. If you suspect someone is using multiple accounts you can use the IP Tools section in the moderator CP or admin CP to see if there are multiple accounts
May 31, 2024May 31 Bear in mind that with so many people using VPN's, and the fact most broadband and mobile internet providers are using shared and not fixed IP's, just because someone has the same IP as someone else, it doesn't mean they're definitely linked in any way. May 31, 2024May 31 There is a third party app for that, but I don't advice to guide yourself by IP addresses duplicates, because of the reasons @Dll mentions above. And the bigger your membership base, the worse it gets. That same app also can detect and prevent registrations from people using a same device, which is a better way to go IMHO. Sadly, the functionality for device detention and subsequent actions it offers is not as good as what it offers for IP address detection. You still need to go fishing for the duplicate devices from a list instead of sending you a message letting you know of a case when it happens (which I believe it does when there's an IP address match). The was a previous app by another author that was more practical and sent messages when it came to device detention but he discontinued it. Edited May 31, 2024May 31 by PPlanet

Bob We have something like this It shows same device login account related to that profile. We also have same functions on post approval panel. There is nothing within the platform at present that can give you a list as such. If you suspect someone is using multiple accounts you can use the IP Tools section in the moderator CP or admin CP to see if there are multiple accounts the problem is that users can connect to same phone internet connection and have same ip. the best way is the same device id and analyze posts that he write on forum. June 18, 2024Jun 18 Community Expert the problem is that users can connect to same phone internet connection and have same ip. Indeed, this is just one of many reasons IP duplication can simply be valid
June 18, 2024Jun 18 Indeed, this is just one of many reasons IP duplication can simply be valid yep. Thats why same device id is 100% accurate.
June 18, 2024Jun 18 Community Expert yep. Thats why same device id is 100% accurate. This is not something available at present. Its also worth noting, nothing is 100% accurate
