I don't see the benefit for members to be indexed especially when not everyone wants their profile to be. This needs better controllability and should be an option. Also you would rather the content be the primary index, after all this is why people come to your forum.

This may not be exactly what you're looking for, but you can set it so that profiles are only accessible by logged in members under permissions in System.

It's a good recommendation however we should have the ability to block search engines following these areas.

Have you considered robots.txt and excluding /profile*?
