sadams101 Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 I have dozens of authors who have written articles and would like to create an "Authors" page that would be a simple listing of each author in alphabetical order, where you could then click on a link to the author's bio page. Does anyone know how I could set this up?
Joel R Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 If you want to be super lazy and smart, you can utilize the Staff page. Create a new category specifically for authors, choose one of the three designs, write a short bio, and done! Another alternative is, as you suggestrd, create a new IP.Pages database and create a custom template to display author bios. You could potentially use the relational links to link an author to multiple articles; you could use fields for author image, bio, interests, etc; and you can use the Super quotes template by @opentype which might work well for you.
sadams101 Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 Interesting. So there is a way to pull in a listing of all authors of my articles there? I assume with a custom block...any idea how to set up such a block?
Joel R Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 The Staff Directory allows either: - membergroups - member So if you have authors in a special membergroups, then yes, you can pull them all in. Or you can list them manually. Your choice. Also, if your authors are in a membergroups, you could also use one of the many mods in the Marketplace for Staff or Member Lists. There's probably three or four of them.
sadams101 Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 Great, they are currently not in a group, but I can fix that. Thank you!
sadams101 Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 I know this is a long shot, but, since I have so many authors, over 400, I am now hoping for help on a possible script that would automatically change the group that my authors are in from their current "Members" group to the new "Authors" group. So the script would need to scan all articles, determine the author, then change their group.
Adlago Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Use "Group Promotion Rules" - Authors usually have a lot of posts. Use the filters and transfer to a new group.
sadams101 Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 Great idea, however, most don't have any posts, as they were imported from a different article software. I will assume group promo rules don't allow me to do that via the number of articles.

sadams101 Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 Wait...you may have saved me...90% of them joined on the same day that I imported them...so I can use that date to move them!
Adlago Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 So I said - look at all the filters and use the appropriate ones
sadams101 Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 Well, creating the rule is one thing, but applying it is another. I did create the correct rule, but it looks like something must happen for it to be triggered, for example they must post something, or log in, but it doesn't just move everyone to that group once the rule is created.

Yeah I *think* Group Promotion is based upon login. So the next time they login it should move them.
sadams101 Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 Most never login...this is old school...most submitted articles to me by email. But how do I "run task promote"?
sadams101 Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 It is my experience with these rules that they won't get promoted until they log in. I don't think running the task would do it...but I still don't see how to run that task separately there.
sadams101 Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 I ran it, but it did not work. I suspect they must log in.
Adlago Posted August 27, 2018 Posted August 27, 2018 Are for your group Members is enable Group Promotion?
sadams101 Posted August 27, 2018 Author Posted August 27, 2018 yes...and then I ran the cron promote, but it doesn't work.
